Researching Backlinks – There are a few really good reason why knowing who is linking to your site could help you rank even better but how do you do that?

You see the internet has billions of pages all indexed by the search engines and all these pages have a number of other peoples sites linking back to them. The search engines analyse those links and use that analysis to determine your rank position. This is done on number of links and authority of links.

Knowing who’s linking to your site can help you decide who to contact in order to better help them link back to you. This is one great way of building affiliates, if they already lank back to your site for free, how much more effort would they put in if you compensated them for that effort.

You can also discover broken links quickly; fixing these links can help you with your ranking as well.

Up until recently many people used Yahoo’s site explorer which gave a comprehensive list of all the back links to your site. Now that’s gone we need to find some alternatives so here are a few which could strengthen your ranking.

Google + has created a massive buzz around the social media community mainly because it’s the fastest growing social media network ever to be created it took just 16 days for Google + to reach the 10 million user target, now just to put this in perspective it took Facebook 852 days to hit that target and Twitter which had a greater hype than Facebook at the time still took 780 days in other words years not days.. I’ve had longer holidays!!

If we extrapolate these numbers Google + will have over 100 million users within 12 months and suspect the figure will be higher than that.. There are some specific features that make Google + different to Facebook and those differences I think will make Google + a for better default social media network than Facebook in the long run.

One of those features is the “Circle” concept.. I go into that more fully in another video but just to emphasise why I think Google + will have advantages over Facebook especially when the kids realise what G+ can do.. you see, Facebook was eagerly adopted by the kids, students and young adults primarily because adults were nowhere to be seen. This meant that they could quite happily carry out private conversations on each others walls and their folks never knew.. Then the adults started to get involved and insisting they become friends and suddenly Facebook lost it’s cool.

Now with the introduction of the Circles concept where you can ring-fence conversations and posts only to those within a specific circle this alone will bring the kids flooding onto the platform and possibly abandoning their Facebook accounts. This won’t happen overnight but it’s the nature of business and the on-line world.. things come and go so it will be interesting how Facebook reacts. In fact they are already introducing some new features so it’ll be interesting to follow what happens..

There are other reasons why I think Google will have universal mass adoption which include such really important things like the seamless integration with Gmail, Google Docs, Picasa, YouTube and even more importantly Google + will integrate with Google Search Algorithm.

The other leviathan social media network which should be looking over it’s shoulder is Twitter. The Google + update feed is very similar is structure as Twitters except for the important fact that it allows you to post images, video and full long links. It also allows you you to customise who you sending these updates to by including or excluding your “circles”

Now for all those who are massive “Skype” fans like me then you may be surprised to know that Google + also offers Group Video Chat in what they call a “Hangout” this is an incredible facility which I think will revolutionise some business conferencing situations. I know from experience that “Skype” has brought business people and business colleagues closer making communication easier. I think the “Hangout” function will take that a step further. As I said Facebook are bringing out further functionality in an attempt to keep up with Google + such as their “Skype” Powered video video chat function which came out just one week after Google + was released. That is unfortunately only a one-to-one connection where as with Google plus you can have up to 10 people video chatting at any one time..

I think you can see that Google + is on a path to revolutionise the sharing of information and they have had enough time to stand back and see where the other digital social platforms where scoring high with the public and businesses alike and they have entered the arena with the idea of dominating the next 5 years at least.

So why do so many struggle? What’s the reason people fail in this industry? Believe me, a lot of people fail. The reality is that most of the time they have been told one thing, only to realise that they’ve not been told the whole truth. Their expectation have not been met in any way As soon as they realise you might have to actually do something, even though the guy who sold them the system said “It’s a push button, magic bullet, hands off, autopilot, self building business”.

The fact that’s it’s not a simple push button business means that people who actually take some time and put a bit of thought and work into it, start to become successful. It may take some time, but you have to realise that running a business on the internet, is essentially the same as any other business.

Here is a personal view on where blogging fits into the on-line marketing landscape and how a blog can dramatically increase exposure and subsequently sales.

Take a quick look around you; the marketing landscape has been transformed by the rise of Social Media as an incredibly powerful tool to really connect with customers and prospects. Social Media enable any company, large or small to fully engage with their target audience, listen to their problems and provide laser targeted solutions almost instantly.

Within this environment there is a crucial area between Social Media sites such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube and your company’s website. That area is filled by blogs. Blogs are the cornerstone to any Social Media strategy. They bridge the gap and provide an incredibly lucrative onramp to higher lead generation and bigger online profits.

• Social Media opens a window on your world.
• Blogs enable people to really engage and get to trust the expertise and information.
• The website provides the solution in the form of products and services.

Without that transition between Social Media and an industry or Expert Blog, both the Social Media strategy and the website strategy has to work so much harder to convince prospects that you or your company are great people to do business with. After all people buy off people and the blog is a great way to let your prospects see who you really are, your understanding of your industry, your expertise, the testimonials, the case studies. They can be full of videos of happy clients, interviews and demonstrations, all linking back to the website where people can purchase solutions to their problems.

A blog enables you to unclutter your website; you don’t have to put so much social proof on the site because you have that in abundance on your blog. It also expands the information from your social media sites, gives your clients or prospects somewhere to go to read more, watch videos, listen to audios etc. Don’t forget, you can tease people with 140 characters on Twitter, but they have to hyperlink to somewhere. If you go directly to a website you’ll probably lose them, going to the blog simply provides more information without the sales pressure.
